advice from you pros! 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Hello everyone,

Im new to the RSC. Just bought my first bike in 12 years! besides the joy of riding, what better way to shove it big oil. My 03 has 3100 miles on it. The original owner put Vance and Hines pipes on the bike and what he termed a "jet kit". I'm taking it to the dealer for a service and I was wondering what I should ask them to do. The bike seems to run rich, I can smell it and I have a good amount of dark black build up in both pipes.

I have the original pipes. I wish to get the best MPG possible. should I put the stockers back on and have them rejet the carb for my elevation? or leave the after market pipes on and have them rejet. I guess I like the growl of the bike now but more MPG is my goal. The bike does have an after market airfilter but im not sure of the brand.

I have not calculated the MPG the bike gets now, just havent had time to ride much yet. I hope my stupidity does not offend. thanks ,steve

If you still have the stock air box you should go back to the stock jets and needle. If you put the stock pipes back on you should go back to the stock jets and needle. You don't need or really want to jet unless you start letting in a lot more air. For just pipes no jetting is needed.

slamy! And don't worry about your stupidity offending. We're ALL stupid here to some degree. Otherwise we wouldn't be here looking for answers. Remember we all benefit from your questions, so ask away.

You'll be glad you got your Roadie. Enjoy your return to the world of two-wheeled travel.

Oh, and Slamy, when you get around to posting a pic of the bike, someone may be able to ID the air intake for you.
