PMS setting 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hello everybody, first I would to thank you to everyone on this site for all the great information. Now, the problem. I've got an '06 Roadstar all stock except for V&H longshots. I drilled out the pms plug & It was 0nly 2 turns out, I was trying to eliminate backfire thru carb.when rev'ed & pipes turning gold. What is the stock setting on PMS & any idea what I should set mine on? I could have bumped pms screw w/drill bit turning it, but I'm not sure. Thanks, Salty

I doubt the PMS has anything to do with either of your problems. The backfire throught he carb is most likely from "blipping" the throttle. These bike don't like to have the gas twisted fast. You could try messing with the acell duration screw. That might help some. All pipes turn colors. There isn't anything you can do to stop that. That's why they started putting heat shields on pipes and started making them double walled. Still turn colors. You just can't see it. Set your RPM to around 900. then turn the PMS in slowly until the motor stumbles. Then counting the turns slowly turn it back out until the motor starts to stumble again. Half way in beteween is pretty close for the PMS.

I'm running stock with stage 1 exhaust mod. PMS is 3 turns out from (lightly) seated. All is running good. Plugs, both front & rear, a nice light tan color.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I think my pms was set a 2 turns out,but I'm not sure. Is that the factory setting or do I need to adjust. I wish I had not touched it & will be happy to set back to factory spec's. Thanks Again ,, Salty

Salty every bike is different do like Musky said and you should be real close. Just make sure the bike is nice and warm when you do it and wear some gloves when you adjust it. I have few burn scars on my right arm fom it. After you can tweak it from time to time to get it perfect. Don't be afraid to mess with it as you may have to adjust it some from summer to winter.

I have an 07 Road Star and just drilled the PMS cap and adjusted to 3 turns. My stock setting was also 2 turns.
