GRRRRR!!!! R* acts like its running out of fuel 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
OK I'm at a loss.2005 R* Done the deep creep boogie, the sea foam flush changed plugs , changed the oil dropped to 4 qts tried choking it and not choking it, changed the needle settings checked for leaks, and still about a half mile from the house when you first leave out. This thing goes to chugging and sputtering to the point of going dead i mean. Acts like it's running on one cylinder. this goes on for maybe a mile or two...or three sometimes
The fuel seems to catch up and it runs great... Any suggestions oh yeah

BAK V&H Longshots, no baffles main jet 172.5 pilot is 35 needle I think is on the 5th clip I moved it to the 4th didn't seem to help.

If you've been running on the 5th and the 172.5 You might be real carboned up. What's the PMS set at?

bout 3.5 , but i seafoamed this thing to death. Gonna go pull the new plugs and give them a look see. Where can I order a 167.5 and a 170 main jet. that seems to be what most folks with mt set up run.

any motorcycle shop should have mikuni jets with those sizes, I got my jets from the local HD shop, just make shure you run the Mikuni ones, they should have them.

Have you checked the fuel filter and/or how much fuel flow you are getting to the carb?

PMS might be rich too. After you do the seafoam you should change plugs IMO. I've never had any luck cleaning plugs or trying to use them after they've been carboned up. Try an HD shop for the jets.

Dozer I fought this exact problem for two mounths and done everything you have done and then some!!! Come to find out only by mistake while trying to figure out what was going on. I took the bike for a ride without the air filter and it never missed a beat!! I replaced the filter three weeks ago and it has not acted up since. Even though the filter looked fine it was evidently restricted enough that it caused the bike to run like crap from about half a mile after starting out and doing it for about two miles! Sound familiar? Hope this helps..

Dozer,

I get the same thing if I use my choke at all. It sounds a lot like what Starrider said about his filter choking his air supply.

She starts up fine right now while it's warm without using the choke. I'm not sure how she'll do once it start to get cold again, but, I'm guesssing that she may still be a little rich from somewhere in the carb at idld. She seems to foul the plugs until she gets hot enough to blow them clean again.

Check that your choke cable isn't stretched and clean up your airflow if it needs it. Might help get you closer to the problem.

Rich.
