Ok, I need the wisdom of the gurus... I'm trying to get my carb jetted right after adding a hypercharger w/stinger trap door. Here's what I've done:

PMS: 3 turns out
Needle: V&H kit, 4th notch from the blunt end
Pilot: stock
Main: 170 Mik

The bike is running the same mileage after the upgrade as before. I pulled the plugs after running a few tanks through to see what they look like. Firstly, I should mention I'm running the NGK iridium plugs which don't have a cylindrical center electrode, they have a pointed electrode.

1) The threaded area has black carbon buildup on it.
2) The center electrode has no noticeable colour change.
3) The side electrode has some white-tan colouring on it, but not much.

I don't have any pictures of them to post either. Anyhow, I've read that the needle should be set on the 4th notch from the blunt end (on average) which is what I found mine to be set at. However, upon closer look... my needle has 6 notches. Given that, I have set the clip at the 5th notch now, still with one to go if needed. Thanks!

Think I would go back to the 4th groove and try adjusting the PMS first. And verify your float level is correct.

You should be close to right on just where you are. But every Roadie is different.

Try the 167.5 also. Do the WOT on both mains and see which the bike likes best. Use the in / out method to set the PMS. Most needles are 6 groove now. 4th is the average. You could also try the 3rd with 2 washers under the spacer.

Is that bad or good?

The mileage is good in my books, running high 30s to low 40s consistently. Last 2 tanks clocked out at 40mpg each. I guess I'm just paranoid that we did something wrong and something needs to change. Hearing what some people have gone through for carb issues, makes me think that mine needs to be more difficult

Sounds ok to me...your mileage is pretty good. If you plugs are showing tan on the center ceramic piece...I don't think I would mess with it. I started to mess with mine because of 20-21 MPG and black plugs. You could move the clip one up or one down and take a plug reading to see what happens. The black soot around the edges of the plug base is the same on mine. To get the best reading on the plug, bring you engine while riding up to about 2500-3000 rpm and then pull in the clutch and kill the motor at the same time...coast into your driveway and that will insure that you don't get an idle reading or reading when you have gassed the throttle.
