Another Newbee jet question 6 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
First, I really am impressed with the willingness to share great info on this forum. A few names continually appear and hats off to you for all that you do.
I just installed a K&N filter on my Roady. I also have a set of Vance and Hines Longshots and the AIS has been removed. I usually run 87 octane and try to stay away from ethanol.
After installing the K&N, the bike only wants to run on 75-100% choke. If I don't it justs backfires and cuts out. I know I probably need to rejet and was hoping there is someone out there with the same setup that could clue me in as to a good setup.
I've seen the V&H and other jetting kits for sale, any recommendations on these.
Any help is really appreciated.
BOHICA!

That's the open K&N and not the filter that fits in the stock airbox?

Thanks, that's the stock replacement filter. OE airbox.

There's no need to jet for just pipes and the K&N in the stock air box. I'm guessing something went wrong with the installation. Go back in there and make sure you did everything according to the instructions.

Musky, thanks again. I'll double check it. I just returned from overseas and the bike sat while I was gone. Think I'll try cleaning the carb also.

That's important info to leave out Drain the tank and put in fresh gas. Take the float bowl off and spray some carb cleaner up in there. Get some Seafoam, Ringfree, or MMO and put maybe 4 ounces in the gas. New plugs. Change the oil. Then take it out and ride the beegeebers out of it. Hit the rev limiter a few times. Blow the crap out and get her cleaned out.
Were you overseas because you're in the service?

You got it. In the Army. 20+ years.
I did change ALL of the oils and drained the gas tank, filter and anything else I could.
I read the article on "Do I Need to Rejet" Great stuff. I should have researched before asking I guess.

I misquoted the article. It's "Does my bike need to be jetted?".

Thank you for your service.
Still get one of the cleaners I mentioned and put it in the tank. That will help clean it out inside all those palces you can't get to.
