Air mixture screw 6 Months ago
When your setting up the PMS/airmixture, and you have gone through the 1/4 turns in and out and split the difference do you screw it all the way in and set your number of turns or are they added to whats remaining on the screw from when you were turning the screw in to where the bike started to miss.

Thanks

Charlie

You screw it in slowly until the motor stumbles. Then turning it out slowly you count the turns until it stumbles again. Then split the difference.

When you split the difference then turn it in till it stubles again and add the difference to where is tumbles when you turn it in. You can tweak in or out from there until you get it spot on.

Turning it in after you split the difference will just put you back where you were when you turned it in the first time.

Not if you add the difference to when it stumbles when you turn it in. IE stumbles then out 5 turns = 2 1/2 turns difference back in till it stubles and out 2 1/2 more turns OR you can just go back in 2 1/2 turns from where it stumbles on the out turns.Guess it depends on if you are an innie or an outtie person.

Re:Air mixture screw 6 Months ago
Hi guys thanks for the quick replys, I started at 3 turns out and turned it in 8- 1/4 turns or 2 full turns before it started to miss, then I turned it out 24-1/4 turns or 6 full turns out before it started to miss, the total was 8 turns, split is 4 added to the remaining 1 turn after it started to miss, my starting point is 5 turns out.
I am running V&H longshots full air on a modified air breather Needle on the forth notch from top, stock pilot jet, DJ main 175, how every thing so far

I'm not sure where you went with this but.... You don't need to count the turns in. That doesn't matter. Once it starts to stumble you stop going in. You start turning it back out. While turning it out you count the turns until it starts to stumble again. If you went out 6 turns you go back in 3. And you are better off counting full turns as much as possible. Not fractions. You left out a 1/4 turn and that is a lot for the PMS adjustment. Just put a mark on the screwdriver so you can see when you've made a full revolution.

That sounds like to much you should go more than 4 turns out if you are jetted right. At four turns I had my stock PMS viberate out on the highway. You sure don't want that I was lucky I was only a couple of miles from home when it came out. Needles to say I had to order a new PMS spring washer and o-ring. Do you have the stock PMS? How does the bike idle do you have the smooth tump tump pause thump thump?
