Khromewerks Slip-ons 6 Months ago
|
|
Got my Khromeworks slip-ons. I love the look. I went with the tapered instead of the slash cut. Had dealer install them while I had new rear spring installed. Only charged me 1/2 hour for the slip-ons/ AIS plugs. Everything else is stock.
Dealer said I may need to re-jet. He said try it for a while and see. I am getting a lot of backfiring. Runs pretty good. I do sense less torque. Motor wants to rev higher but I hit rev limiter pretty quick. Sound is great but backfiring seems a bit much.
Do I need to re-jet?

If the only thing you changed is pipes, you shouldn't need to rejet, and removing the AIS should help get rid of the popping on decel.

The popping on decel has turned into some serious backfiring. And through the slip-ons it's loud as hell.

try and work it out using the pms before you start changing jets...and be sure those slip-ons arn't leaking as that will make it backfire real good...

I looked at the PMS guide in tech section. Sounds like turn the PMS screw out till backfiring on decel stops. That's richening it right? I thought backfiring was sign of too rich - unburnt fuel in exhaust. Guess i was way off base.

OK - I removed the AIS. Popping is a LOT better. Have a question:
Checking for leaks - am I looking for air leaking out of connections or in? I passed a punt under pipe/muffler and pipe/head and didn't see any "puffing". But then I thought maybe I should be looking for something else?

Did more riding last night. Popping much better with AIS disconnected but still there on hard decel. And with slip ons it's loud.
Is this indicating real problem with my jetting or is it just "cosmetics"?

Really does sound like an exhaust leak. I wouldn't think the dealer would have pulled the entire exhaust for just slipons but you never know. If you havn't already check up by the heads and see if maybe you have a leak there. If nothing else start at the heads and just re-tighten everything and see if that helps? As others have said, you don't normally need a rejet just for exhaust. Good luck!

OK - it took a while but I think it's finally getting through my thick Irish head that I need to pick up the wrench and redo all connections. You're right - I doubt dealer took that much time making sure everything was perfect.
Instructions from Khromewerks said to loosen pipes at head, line everything up then retighten. At what point do I need to use new gaskets at head?
