Allen bolt stripped 4 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove a stripped allen bolt from underneath the left floarboard.
Stripped it today tring to install a crashbar..
How to remove it yourself?
Can the dealer do it and what do they charge?
Any other places where I can take it to?
Thanks,

Dremel tool and cut the head off. Those bolts are soft and strip way easy. I have replaced mine with SS bolts. I was doing a lot of removal making my floor board extensions. The left ones, first time I tried to take them out striped. Impact hammer, impact gun ... everything I had available failed except the Dremel and a cutting wheel. Cut a plus sign deep into the head and then you can just pop the head off in quadrants.

Another way to remove this or any other bolt is to use an "Easy Out". This is basically a backwards tap. You start by drilling ahole in the bolt, insert the "Easy Out" and thread it in. This will cause the bolt to back out (usually).

I had a real tough time getting my easy out stuff under the board. I suppose I could have pulled the board at the hinge and then done it. After a quick mental calc, decided I could Dremel them way faster. Why don't they use real metal in those bolts?

I had the exact same problem. Took it to the dealer and they did it for nothing. Even put the crash bars on for me.

They are a pain to remove, let me guess its the left side front bolt ?
Once i stripped it with the impact I cut a slot (where would we be without a dremel) and used a chisel and hammer, piece of cake.
