the bike is running great a real fire cracker, sounds good to. i still smelled the raw fuel just a tad after adjusting the pms a few more times in, im now at 1 turn out.

does anybody else smell a little raw gas smell comming from their pipes but thinks there bike is running great?

i guess ill have to go through at least 3 tanks of fuel and see what kind of millage im getting!!!

the idles great also, a little more galluping though, the o-lady likes it.

so doc:

if i put a #30 pilot jet in insted of the #35 would it maybe help with the idle richness?

ill try to pull the plugs tommorow! Post edited by: dozer, at: 2006/09/26 19:06

I thought 35 is a stock pilot? heard of people going to a 37.5 or a 40
but have not heard of anyone going (down) to 30

Hey erizo

are you shur you havnt been going to my dealer in tennessee, it seems they dont know how to do anything either, the owner told me himself that he started the dealer ship just so he could be with his kids all day and not have to be designing buildings in some other country.

he also said that he had or has no idea how to work on the equipment or bikes.

but his mechanic use to own his own harley shop near the salt flats, but never said he worked on them!!!

hey dave:

i have heard alot of people go up also on the pilot jet, but if i cannot get enough fuel for my 167.5 main to run the bike at higher speeds.

the 170 main seems right for way that i ride, but at idle the bike seems to be a little rich, so i would either need to go to a bigger pilot air jet in the thraot of the carb., or a new pilot jet that would decrease the amount of fuel i get @ idle + because the pilot jet is used at a little at at all throttle ranges i could see an inprovement comming in the mpgs also.

Post edited by: dozer, at: 2006/09/27 08:01

OK guys I had a brain fart (ya it happens ) All these numbers floating around ....

The stock is #35. I'm one of those that had to put in the 37.5 when I ran my ProPipe but with the Nasties I had to put the #35 back in as it was too rich.

Dozer, your thinking is correct. If the bike starves at higher revs with the 167.5 then keep the 170 main. At idle that circuit is not the main contributor.

In your case, it you're at stock (#35) and you're at 1 on the PMS and still smelling gas at idle then I'd make sure that ...

- the float level it OK
- the choke is working

If these are a go .... then go down one step on the pilot = #32.5. A #30 may be to big of a step.

Thanks to vegasdave for keeping us honest.

Bike is running great.. pulled into the garage and smelled slight raw fuel after I parked her... sniffed around carb.. exhaust.. and it was coming from the gas tank vent tube underneath the bike-put my finger on it an there was a drop o gas there.. all systems ...OK

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2006/09/27 11:29

well guys it was 71 deg.s outside today so i played hooky from work today and went and filled up the tank about 1/8" above the neck of the tank.

i then reset the odometer "something musky forgets to do" for a nice 160 mile ride today two up, about 35% twisties in the mountains here varying speeds up and down, 10mph- 40mph curves, 60mph on most strait aways.

the bike ran a little quiter today, i believed it was a little rich, so about 40 miles from the house in a gas station, i removed the tank and removed the needle and set it on the 3rd grove with the stock washer placement.

the bike ran a lot better, but i cant tell if i smell the raw fuel from the exhaust down by the pipes at idle or the exhaust its self.

when i got back to town around 4 miles from home i filled up the tank, like i said the odometer had 121 miles on it + the 39.3 i had before i pulled the tank, that gave me 160miles or so, i put 3.76 gal.s. in, do the math i got 42.5mpg not bad sence ive never had more than maybe 35mpg before.

now im going out to see if i still need to get the #32.5 pilot or not, my dealer said he didnt know what to get, but if i come in and pick it out than he could have it in a week or two, what a dumb ass!!!!!!!

Post edited by: dozer, at: 2006/09/27 19:32

Here here I agree, and a carb is not fuel injection.I know I`m alittle rich at
idle but runnin good on the open Highway. My last oil change I did myself, and I
just adjusted my belt for the 1st time.Talked to my mom`s husband Gene.
He`s 70 and been ridin since he was 15 and tell`s me bike`s are usually going
to pull slightly one way are the other and reminde3d me that roads are crowned
and not come pleatly flat.So I don`t think I`lldrive myself crazy on my belt
adjustment Sorry,got long winded there didn`t5 I
