Need some advice on pulleys 3 Years, 10 Months ago
I am thinking about going to a barons 31 tooth or yamahas 30 tooth pulley. What does everyone suggest? Does anyone have either of these? If so, do I have to switch out the belt to more or less teeth? Thanks for the help as always...

I've only heard about going down to 31 tooth pulley, and you don't have to switch out the belt. You may need to stretch it out a bit more at the rear tire, but not too much.

Didn't see what year Roadie you have The 04 and up has a 32 tooth already I switched my 05 out to a 31 tooth but, I think you would loose too much on the top end with a 30 tooth. I cruise nicely at 80-85mph with the 31.

I'm actually going the other way, putting a 33-tooth on my '05, looking for lower RPM at higher speeds for distance travel.

I'll prob'ly keep mine at 32. To me, it's the best of both worlds - not super quick off the line (prob'ly kill myself) and nice cruising, even though I haven't taken any long trips yet. A 33 should give you great cruising, Soba.

I have an '06 Roadie, just installed a 30 tooth and had to install a 128 tooth belt with it. The whole process took about 1 hour and 45 minutes. "You have to remove the rear fork to change the belt". As for the mpg, I did a 3 hour trip and averaged 46 with my girl on back. The roadie still has plenty of top end left. In fact I beleive it helps it push through the wind better. Power wise, it'll leave a mark when you hit second and bark the tire in third

Thanks for all the good info everyone. I have an 03 and I believe it comes stock with a 33 tooth. I just got 44 mpg averaging about 85 mph on the way home from up north michigan this past wk end. Good to hear I can still get that some mileage with the 30 tooth wills.

If you ride the same way, your mileage will go down. At a given speed your revs will now be higher so .... more gas.

With a 30 tooth front pulley, 128 tooth belt, Dyna 3000, Hyper Charger, V&H longshots, the "flip", I get 46.5mpg on the highway at 80 mph. When you first get the 30 tooth and the 128 tooth belt installed you WILL get lower mpg until you quit grinnin from ear to ear and you guit given her WOT!
