carb vs FI and ethanol 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago

I had a yami dealer and his mechanic who has 30 years working on bikes both tell me yesterday that they are starting to see more and more carb bikes starting to have problems running with all the ethanol based gas out there today. That is why the auto manufacturers went to FI a long time ago and why more and more of the new bikes are going to FI. I didn't realize that anything up to 10% ethanol in the gas doesn't even have to be disclosed on the pump - even some states require a minimum of 15% ethanol in their gas. This may be why some guys are having problems with their bikes - I don't know cuz I'm a computer geek and not a mechanic. I know there are a lot of knowledgable guys on here that may know something about this being true or not. The dealer did have a heck of a deal on a new 07 black cherry stratoliner s for $12,500 - that's over four grand off!! He said the strat with the fuel injection would be a much better bike in the long run over a 07 midnight star he also has because if the FI. I know the 08 roadies now have FI, but this is even cheaper than the roadstar s for 08. MY bike just got totaled and I need a new one - any thoughts about the FI and carb with ethanol guys????

I am sure someone that knows more about it then i do will chime i and tell yea all you want to or need to hear.. All i can say about it is i have a 01 road *.. with 35000 miles on it.. I bought it and it had about 16000 on it. Here i nebraska you will find 10 % Ethanol everywhere.. it is about a dime a gallon cheaper at the pump then the other. I know alot will say not to run it.. But i have ran it alot and dont seem to have problems with it. Maybe i will have down the road but for now i havent had any troubles...

BigDrag56
i read what you have wrote.
I think you should go for the EFI now days .
it better to have a good dependable on the road with FI
Down the road the FI will gain more power in the near future. its same way with the harley davidson that frist came out with FI and they learned to change in many way to imporve the FI system power . Their is alot of after market for FI for harley and other bike with FI But trust me, It will come up with new aftermarket down the road But not to long for the star bikes. We are kinda of lucky that we knows now.
As you know that I do regret that I didnt buy harley with FI due to my hearing that I am deaf and couldnt get the fuel and air mixter right . hearing people do know the diffrences. Id the roadstar did had a EFI back in 2004 then I would go buy it But for the stratoliner bike the looks i didnt like But love the handleing, light weight and the power on the motor is soo sweeetest and love it . I have rode on it for test ride. But the downside is the fuel tank is smaller and few things I didnt like But agian love the power!! Hope that might help you to get idea !!! by Bill
