I ride a Suzuki Intruder 1500LC, but........ 4 Months, 1 Week ago
am thinking of buying a Roadstar. My wife loves them! Anyway, I found a pretty nice looking 2003 Roadstar 1600 Silver Addition. The owner has put over $4K into the bike. Everything looks custom. A very perty bike

I have one problem. The bike has 47K miles on it. I don't know much about these bikes so, my question to you experts are:
1. How many miles can you put on these bikes?
2. What can I expect after 47K miles? (replace/repair/etc)
3. Should I even consider purchasing this bike?
4. How much should I pay for this bike (I'm told somewhere between $7,400 and $7,700)?
5. Anything else I should know?

Seller is asking $7,800.00 and has it at for sale at a used bike warehouse and, after their markup, the total purchase price is $9,200.00. What do you think?

Thanks all!

(Still love my Intruder, though)

Welcome Oak_Rider! I think for 9200, that is a bit steep considering you can find 07's around for 9500 - 11500 depending on Roadie model. Check out Cycle Trader and get an idea of what the market in your neck of the woods is.

An '03 R* with 47k miles... no matter how many add ons ain't worth no $9,200.00.

Run, do not walk away, from that "deal".

Check craigslist and eBay to start getting an idea of what you can get and for how much.

I found my '01 on craigslist 1 year ago with only 3,100 miles on it, and I only paid $4,600! One of the best deals of my life!

My best friend was so impressed, he went on craigslist and found an '02 Midnight Star with 6,000 miles for only $5,300, and it was mint!

You can get near new for little money, if you look.

Hello Oak_Rider , Really enjoyed my LC1500 Intruder as well. Loved my RoadStar even more!

Price (7,800) sounds A little high , but , I haven't seen the bike. 9,200 is a pipe dream. you can get new left overs at some dealerships for around 10,000 new. I did.

47,000 is scarier in some folks minds than others. If it has been well looked after , those miles wouldn't bother me at all. Typical wear items (brakes , tires, cables , Maybe the drive belt (maybe) , but other wise , ride it.

I think you would enjoy the move to a RoadStar , but it might not hurt you to shop around first , and get the best deal , not the first deal. Just a couple thoughts, BB.

ouch! 7200 is a bit steep for that bike to begin with. I paid 6k for my 02 silverado w/ 4k miles on it. that included HK slip ons, 4 helmets (2 beanie 2 full face) as well as other goodies. keep an eye on the clinic, use the search forum and you'll see where others have came in and asked similar questions. also as a rule of thumb, accessories added doesn't matter. its just a perk for the next guy. you can't assume he'll get the 4k back out.

good luck & you'll find one. they're out there. oh also check craigslist & try to go personal. anytime you get any kind of dealer involved, there's middlemen money added. there has to be.

I have only one thing to say. I would not pay that much for the bike your looking at as all have said. But I will say this the 47,000 miles is not a bad thing. I'm right at 60,000 with my 2000. Other then tires, oil changes and just recently a starter relay the bike runs great. I'm getting ready to ride her to Sturgis in 3 days and my wife and I travel alone so I would say that I'm confident in my R* even though it has 60,000 on it. The point I'm making is yes find a R* with less miles but be confident that she will run well past 47,000 and not give you any problems.

Hey Oak_Rider...

There's an 03 in the classifieds... use it for a comparison... (or call my buddy Steve about it...) He's hoping to fetch a little under the $6995 asking...

Thanks all! You're a great help. Here's the 2003 Yamaha ROADSTAR SILVERADO LTD:

http://www.riderschoiceusedbikewarehouse.com/results.php?clas=3&manu_id=4&sell_price_low=10&sell_price_high=10500&cc_low=999&cc_high=10001&limit=8

It lists what the bike has. I'm not sure if this will make a difference or not, but just wanted to put it out.

Thanks again.

As the unofficial "Cheap A$$" on this forum I can say without a reservation that this is NOT a deal I'd ever consider. You shouldn't either. I could find you a better deal in about 10 min. of searching.

Like the others have said, skip this one. There's a Roadie out there with your name on it at a price that won't have others laughing at how gullible you were to buy it. Be patient and enjoy your Suzuki till then.
