BAK vs. Hypercharger 4 Months ago
Hey all..
I have been searching online, and reading here quite a bit, but I can't really find a good answer or opinions to show me what way to go.

What is the difference between them? The Hypercharger is still a BAK, yeah? Im confused. haha

I am planning on doing the Vance and Hines Longshots HS exhaust, and also want to do the air kit at the same time, just needing to know what way to go.

Opinions welcome!! Please give them! Discuss

I have the BAK and was under the impression it only referred to "Barons Big Air Kit". I do not know if there is much difference between the two as far as performance. I could be wrong though and most likely am. But I do not know if I would be able to notice if one performed better anyways. I chose barons kit Part number BA-2020-03 because it suited my taste.

yeah, I think a BAK is a proper name for Baron, but I think it is common for Big Air air cleaners...IE the K&N and such.

Honestly, I am trying to decide between the Hypercharger and a Kuryakyn Air cleaner with K&N filter. Just wondering if there is any PRO to the Hyper...its looks to me like it works on the RAM Air idea..

the hypercharger is really just a K&N filter in a fancy case. iīve got a pro hyper on mine, the filter works well and the outside case is bling that i like.

ram air effect? nominal at best.
the back rear part of the hypercharger has a slot allowing air in at the back, so any perceived ram air effect is minimal.

the filter on the pro hypercharger flows 420cu/ft - min. dunno what the barons BAK flows, but if it is around the same, then itīs down to purely a question of aesthetics.

You might want to sit on a few bikes that have the hypercharger installed. There are those here who report it really gets in the way of your knee/leg and makes riding a bit uncomfortable.

Just a consideration.

These engines need a Big Air Kit just to breathe right.

I put the hypercharger pro on mine for the amount of air it can let in, but also so I don't have to have a raincoat when it is parked. Any water that blows in the fron runs out the long slot on the bottom.

My hyper sticks out even further than the stock, about 3/4" and is no problem. I am 5'10" with 30" inseam and don't have any trouble. It will touch you leg and you can fell the vibe through it, but you soon learn how to get around it.

I just got back yesterday from 526 miles to Hutchison, Ks and back. About 1/2 in the rain and no problems with water in the cleaner or carb.

I like the looks of the BAK, but my bike getd to set in the rain at work or on the road quite a bit and I don't want to mess with the raincoat.

Just my opinion.

I have the Hypercharger and have no problems whatsoever. It looks good, is functional and at 6'3" it doesn't get in the way of my legs.

One year ago yesterday, while on the Disabled American Vet run, we were caught in a horrific downpour. It was literally coming down sideways. At one point, I hit a puddle about 6 inches deep that sprayed up about shoulder height ... just as a truck going the other way sprayed what looked like a 10 foot tidal wave at us. And we spent about 45 minutes at a dead stop at the top of the Brooklyn Bridge in the middle of the run because two yellow demons (taxis) decided to play chicken at the exit into Manhattan. I had to put the helmets in the dryer because the insides were wet! The whole point being that my scoot never died and started right up when I needed her to with this Hypercharger.

Re:BAK vs. Hypercharger 4 Months ago
I chose the Barons Air Kit, for aesthetics and clearance. With a Hyper Charger my leg rested against the air breather housing. Air flow is nearly identical on both, the Hyper has a vacuum connection for the butterflies that has been reported to be somewhat problematic. I have had the BAK in torrential down pours and the bike has never even missed. I would not leave either of them out sitting in a rain storm without a cover or raincoat. In the end it comes down to aesthetic preferences. Good luck.

John

I am from Hutchinson, Ks...how ironic.

The more I have been thinking and reading and looking around, I think I will be going with just a high flow filter (KN) and cover kit.

Max air seems to be the whole point anyway

Re:BAK vs. Hypercharger 4 Months ago
I have the hypercharger. I believe you'll get more air from the BAK though. The custom options with the hypercharger are many though; meaning you can change the look fairly cheaply and quickly. Options include LED cover (about $180), stinger trap doors ($50), Pro-cover/filter ($130), colored trap door/butterflies and other options. But the hypercharger does stick out further... though you do get used to it. The BAK is more exposed to the elements; also, the BAK; riders say they leak filter oil, though I believe they are over oiling the filters in the 1st place.
