#104157 Jesusman (User) Junior Boarder Posts: 141 Tranny Noise 5 Months, 1 Week ago   Folks I went for a ride Sunday evening with my wife. She was on my Roadie and I was on my Stratoliner. I heard a loud noise coming from the Roadie even over wind noise and the exhaust of both bikes. I got up beside her and the noise was coming from the tranny/ front pulley area. I won't say it is a grinding sound, but it sounds like gears meshing with the covers off of them. It is very loud though. It's an '02 Silverado with 19,000 miles. Any thoughts? Platinum Boarder Posts: 3000 Re:Tranny Noise 5 Months, 1 Week ago   Sounds like the rollers that guide the belt may need to be cleaned. You can pull that side cover off and you'll find those rollers. I had to clean mine in June. I've got over 30,000 miles on my '06. I am not too mechanical and was unsure of what was under that cover. Guide rollers, do you mean removed and cleaned or removed and lubed somehow? If lube, what do you recommend? I work out of town all week so I won't be able to check it out until I get home. Feilding ideas to try when I get home. I am due for a service and brakes, so I wanted to have some ideas and not be told some high priced story. My wife has a Shadow 750 but wants to move up to the Roadie, so I want to make sure all is well. She whines about not being able to keep up with the Strat. It's just so hard to ride easy when you have all that torque at your disposal! Still making the noise. I had it on a lift and ran it through the gears with the cover off. Two observations, one: the noise couldn't be replicated, needs to be on the ground with resistance, two: the plastic rollers don't appear to touch the belt at all, is this common? Belt may be too tight. If I grab the belt between my thumb and fore finger and twist it, it takes some force to get a 1/4 turn.
