When I went out for a ride this afternoon I got as far as third gear before getting to a red light. While down shifting, the shift lever did not return to the proper position. It stayed down, not returning back "up". What would causes this? Now I adjusted the cable several times. That is NOT the problem. Anyone ever experience this and what did you do to correct it? Something to note. While letting the engine coast down it does eventually (the shift lever) come up and I can down shift to the next lower gear., then the same thing, coast a little and then down shift again. It just doesn't have the "snap" of getting back up instantly like it's suppose to.

Did you check the spring on the lever to make sure it didn't break?
There's also a small return spring also.

Have you checked the linkage from the shift lever to the tranny.

I looked in the manual to see if there was a return spring and could not find one. Anyone know where in the manual it is so I can get the part #. I'm talking about the shop manual not the little "pamphlet" manual you get with the bike. Also, I have NOT checked the shift lever distance. How would it get out of adjustment?

Get down close to the shifter and move it with your hand. Look for busted parts or something hanging up.

Didn't I read somewhere there is a manual online? Maybe I can see what spring and return spring you're talking about.
