Fuel pump relocation question 4 Months ago
|
|
I am doing the pump relocation. My first problem is I am not getting gas to the carb. When I turn the key, the pump makes a loud noise like its trying to pump but isnt getting anything. Second...the wiring is vague to me. I didnt route the wiring as suggested. Instead of cutting and splicing as was suggested...I cut the black wire and left the blue connected. My problem may lie within that little black wire. Where should I hook that one up to?

First of all if the pump is running you have the wiring hooked up right. you probably got the fuel lines reversed on the pump! it's not hard to do you need to check and make sure you have the line from the tank going into the inlet of the pump and the line going to the carb is hooked to the outlet side. you also know that you can get rid of the fuel pump on the R it is not really necessary but if you do a lot of hard pulling or wot you will want to put in a 2.5 needle set which is available from suzuki!!

Your welcome. the reason i said the lines is because i've been turning wrenches for thirty years and i got mine reversed when i relocated. 1 month later i just done away with the pump!

I have printed out the tech article on the float bowl needle. It seems a little over my head. So far I have not been shy to tear into my roadie. But this mod scares me a little. Have you had any problems without your pump? And did you run into any hazy parts of the article? I just dont want to have too many suprises if I do decide to go pumpless. Again, thanks for your help!

Before i put in the 2.5 needle i could starve the carb for fuel but only under extreme load or wot. but since installing the needle set no problem at all!! Good luck in what ever you decide.

I put the 2.5 mm needle and seat in and got rid of the pump. I started starving for gas if I accelerated through forth or ran it out in forth and fifth or was below half a tank and accelerated hard in 3rd, 4th or 5th. I now have the pump again.

I have done the needle set, it took all of about 10 minutes to complete pulling the pump and placing the new 2.5 mm. I purchased from Babbits online. They had, by far the best price I found even adding shipping.
Also, when I first moved my pump to the side cover, I had the same problem. I quickly found that the seat was pinching the fuel line. No problems after that.

I had the same problem with the 2.5mm.
I now have the pump back on as well.
