Transmission recall 5 Months ago
Sorry if this has been beaten to death, for what year bikes did the recall effect, and how long does the engine/drivetrain warranty last from date of purchase? Just wondering if my 06' might have some warranty left on it.

The recall is for the 1600's only. The warranty is a year unless you bought a longer one.

Oh well. Someone told me today that the engine and drivetrain had a 3 yr. and the rest was one yr.That would be nice if it were true.

It is not true, Yamaha does not offer a seperate drive train warranty. There are a number of companies offering extended warranties that can be purchased with the bike (Y.E.S. and Western Service are the ones I am familiar with) or prior to the expiration of the original warranty.

Re:Transmission recall 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have a 2002 roadstar I believe it allready has had the reccall work done. I believe it is need of some work in the tranny. I have kinda narrowed it down to the tranny.I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the tranny after they fixed the tranny and if Yamaha has stood behind thier work or not?

What kind of problems? You can contact any Yamaha dealer and give them the VIN from your bike, they can tell you if and when a recall was done.

I asked the stealer a while back if the tranny recall had been done he said it had. The vin doesn't have any punch marks near it though. The first thing that happened was as I was coming to a stop I heard a loud clunk that stalled the motor. The second incident happenned as i was coming home from a poker run at hiway speeds when the bike made a loud chatter sound like gears meshing together. I thought it might be the front pulley so I checked all that out and the pulley and the shaft from the transfer seem to be allright. I was wondering if anybody has had this happen?

I have an 01* that I bought used with 2100 miles on it, I took it to the dealer and they ran the vin, no recall had been done, they ask if I wanted to schedule that and any parts installed while it was apart. I went with the 10.5 : 1 pistons and the comp valve springs and a couple of other things.
So they did the recall for free and charged me less for the other work. Not a bad hit over all.
They will do the recall for free at any time for you.

I put two hundred miles on her yesterday and no problems but i keep wondering what the noise is? I believe its in the tranny it kinda fits the problem with the clip from what i've read on Road Star Riders forum. It stalled the motor first time when i was coming to a stop and then made wierd meshing type sound when going around 70 mph on the hiway. If it locked up then I'd been hurting some.I only hope that Yamaha stands behind their work.

Call Yamaha customer service and give them your VIN. See if they have it on record as being done.
