Handling 5 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi I have a 2006 Roadstar Silverado (First Bike) it seems that the front end turns very easy when I have it up on the jack. I was wondering if this is why it feels unstable at low speeds. If so how can I correct this.

It should turn easy but not slam to one side or the other. Balance at low speed is learned best in empty parking lots. Take your time and practice. It's the spinning of the wheels that makes a bike stay upright and stable. Just like a gyroscope(sp). So the slower the wheels are turning the more gravity wants to tip the bike over.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/10/25 13:40

yes, I know what you mean. The thought never occured to me but my father had his Silverado up on his lift an wondered if there was a way to dampen the steering as we could with the old HDs we used to ride. Maybe an aftermarket damping system could be fitted to the RoadStar but have never seen such a setup. With the wheels on the ground, the rake and trail designed into modern motorcycles negates the need for such damping I guess.

It is the first bike I owned but I have ridden a few.
I guess what I need to do is let another Roadstar owner ride and see if its just me.(Any in North West Tennessee?)
Thanks for your help

Mike

Mike,

Sounds to me like you just need to keep riding to get used to your bike.If you are that uncomfortable about it take it back to the stealer err.....dealer where you got it and talk to them .If its a safety problem that needs to be fixed I guarantee you they wont just blow you off besides you can tighten or loosen the center nut on your forks to whatever makes you feel comfortable......Coug

Post edited by: Cougar, at: 2006/10/25 17:27

The big cruisers and touring bikes are something you have to get used to especially if yer riding two up

The R* is the nicest handling bike in its class ..but she aint no sport bike

Check your air pressure as well. Too low could make it sluggish, to much air and it will turn reeeel easy and tend not to track well as there is not enough rubber on the road.

(First Bike)

That's what I based my answer on as it was the only clue you gave on your riding experience. So I gave information that I thought would help a new rider. The more info you give when asking a question the better someone can try and give you the answer you're looking for. If I offended you it wasn't my intention.
