Ticking sound from lower exhaust pipe. 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Any info? What make this strange the bike runs good, until you shut down the engine and the ticking begins. Lasts 2-3 minutes then goes away. But what makes this more interesting, if you tap the heat shield the ticking goes away. Dealer says this is normal as the exhaust cools down. Whats the real scoop, fellow roadies!
ride safe

replacing your pipes, can get rid of that ticking depending on the pipes. Mine doesn't tick since I replaced the stock exhaust.

The dual wall er welded on shields of hk and road burners do not tick

After hard riding not a tick...not even one

My Harley Classic made quite the song and the Cobra classics with the hose clamp shields...

Megacone none...

It is entertaining though

the metals expand on heating and on cool down they contract....the pinging is the shield going back to its original shape after being warped slightly by the heat.....

Exhausts systems that use hose clamps and thinner guage material are more suseptible to this warping...
