extended cables 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I'm putting 10" ape hangers on my bike, and i'll need longer cables. Does anyone know how to figure how much longer the cables need to be? Is there a formula for determining the extra lenght needed? I've seen one on the web somewhere, but I can't find it again. Help me please.

I put 12" on mine and the only thing I changed was the front brake line. I just measured the distance and added a little. The other cables, I just re-routed and it works fine.

I am going to go to 15" and then I will be replacing with braided, longer cables.

I put 16 in apes on mine and used 10 in over cables witch was too much 8 would have been plenty. with 10 in I wouldn't go over 4 in extension IMHO.

Noticed this is your first post so hey .
I think for 10" apes you should be able to just reroute your exsisting cables and get by. Front brake line??? Basic rule of thumb is measure stock cables, add in the height of the apes then take off 10 inches. Example you want say 18" apes lets say your stock cables are 30" + 18" = 48" - 10"= 38" cables. Hope this helps. OSO

Thanks for the info. I'll try rerouting first.

Make sure you can fully turn the bars both ways w/out anything hanging up. I also went with 16" apes, and went +12 on the cables. I wanted to make sure that down the road, there would be no problems from any unknown tension.
