not to beat a dead horse, but i have a 2002 roadstar that is new to me and after three weeks of ownership it started flooding the engine. unlike all the others that complain about carb puking when its hot, mine does it when i start it after several days of being parked. the cylinder must be full of fuel because it would barely turn over, then when it does, raw fuel pours out of the exhaust. once it starts it's fine. could the jetting be off? it came with straight pipes, and a k&n air filter box. also, the k&n filter is wet with fuel.

If true, I would suspect the float being out of adjustment (understatement!).

How much fluid is coming out of the pipes?

Sounds like maybe the float is stuck or the float needle isn't seating. Do you still have the fuel pump?

fuel pump is still there and i suppose there is a float bowl full of fuel leaking out!

Quick fix, turn your petcock off with the bike. That will buy you time to look into it more.

Definetly, turn it off when you get to where you're going for the night turn off the petcock and let the bike idle until it dies.

Take the carb apart an clean it paying close attention to the fuel bowl needle and seat ... probably dirty or worn.

The float bowl has a vent, and if the float doesn't shut off the fuel flow properly, the excess fuel should run out through the vent. If the vent is clogged the fuel will totally fill the carb and with raw fuel in the carb throat, it will run into the intake manifold into the cylinders and back out into the filter. CHECK THE FLOAT BOWL VENT/OVERFLOW!

Not at all good for the cylinder walls... you're washing the oil right off of them. No lube is there during start-ups.

Worse, you absolutely must change your oil. Gas had to have seeped past the piston rings and gotten in the crankcase as well.

This issue must be fixed right away. You can ruin an engine in short order with the serious gasoline dilution of your oil that you have going on... even ceramic cylinders can't stand up to no oil upon start-ups.

When the carb is cured, pull the plugs and squirt a little marvel mystery oil in the cylinders... no more than even one ounce, and then turn the engine over slowly with a socket on a long bar at the crank.

Do NOT start your engine after a gas-soaking wash down of your cylinders. There will be no oil on the walls or piston rings, and a sure way to eat a motor real quick!

i found part of the problem. the float adjustment is way too high. luckely the dealer i bought it from is waranteeing the bike and i will let them screw with it until the point that i have to do all of the work.
also, i don't believe that any fuel leaked into the oil...it look's good. i believe that when i start it is when the engine immediately floods and pours out of the exhaust pipe. the fuel in the airbox it leaking out of the air jet; probabely due the the high float level which is at the air jet level.
