#112008 pickwickbubba (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 12 Funky idle 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago   I've got an 04 with HK pipes and stock air breather with 20K miles, I bought it used and the guy said it had been rejetted. The problem is the idle, it never has had a steady lope but lately it's gotten worse, it runs fine but has a funky idle. I've tried adjusting the idle speed up and down but can't get it right, I checked the plugs (they looked good so I didn't change them)and replaced the air filter. I,ve noticed the idle speed increases when it gets hot so I'm wondering if it's jetted right. What would cause the idle to become rough and not affect the mid-range and top end? Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm guessing that's part of your problem. You need to give us information. What you have for jetting. What grade gas. I haven't torn into the carb so I don't have a clue what size jets are in it. I'm no mechanic so I'm scared to tear the carb apart. Don't adjust it when it's cold. They all run weird when they're cold. Mine runs around 850 at a reasonably consistent lope for big V twin, changing its beat every now and again to remind me nothing's perfect. Check very carefully as they are sometimes hard to find. Fresh Boarder Posts: 14 Re:Funky idle 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago   Like Docshadow said check for vacuum leaks.While the bike is running uses a quick spray of starter fluid around areas were ou suspect a vacuum leak. I have personally seen 2 roadstars and one HD that were "dyno tuned" by a shop where I live. and all 3 bikes have to be rode with the choke out one click. and No I didnt let that shop do mine. I installed valve spring from orient express and took the bike straight to Mike Cuputo. (http://www.dragbike.com/news/05-03/052703a.htm) it is set up exactly to the reccomendations of dyno jet and the bike runs all most flawless. so long as you give it a daily romp off the rev limiter lol. so far I have 3k miles since the work and all is well.   Logged     Last Edit: 2008/08/25 07:22 By jetspray.
