I think the few shavings you get in there, would not hurt anything as if by chance they were to get pulled into the fuel line, the filter would catch them.. most of them will come out of the tube on the outside as the bit turns...you will need to drain it to put the sender in so do it then...really, it takes an open spark or flame to ignite the fuel vapor, so their's not much chance of that, but I would drain it to be on the safe side..or fill it up, half full would be the worst senario..Gas cap is easy and it works just fine, Ive had mine vented for a while.

Flashback: How bad is the vapor of the gas? I keep my bike in the garage on the same side as the gas hot water heater, that is enclosed in a closet. Granted it's about 20 feet away from the bike, but the washer/dryer is out there too, and don't want to hear about the garage smelling like gas. I've not really smelled too much gas before from the bike, just curious if this is going to be a drastic difference. I've read up on the gas cap vent, and it sounds easy. Thanks, for the info.

Hey Pete
I really didn't notice a gassy smell after I did the cap, BUT I keep mine in a garage with several gas cans weedeaters ect. not to mention that I was a HVY equipment mech for 30 years so I'm most likly immune to that smell any way.
Of course the saddlebag hasn't noticed it either
(don't tell her that I said that..)
