I have 39000 on my 99 and I would like to know if A synthetic Oil would be good for me or Help out ???????

Funny thing a while back. We bought one of the very first GMC Duramax trucks that was built, and it had this little "tick" in it when idling right from brand new. It now has over 300,000 on it and still runs like a charm. It still has it's idling "tick" and that hasn't changed. Apparently all of the first generation Duramax engines had this occasional "tick" when idling. GMC came up with the conclusion that the "tick" was caused by the engine oil gettng bubbles of air in it and making noise at the rod bearings as the bubbles that were entrained in the oil exploded.
So, when the second generation Duramax came out in mid-2003, it had a revised oil pressure-regulation system. Apparently GMC had lowered the oil-pressure and increased the oil-flow. This got rid of the "tick" at idle. We always have used 0w40 synthetic oil in that '01 Duramax, year-round since it was new. That little "tick" has never changed no matter what brand of oil was used.

But, Doc Shadow is correct about Yamalube oil being bad for air-entrainment in air-cooled motors. Even my Kubota Generator motor was noisier with that stuff in it.

A Roadstar has four valves per cylinder too, that many valves must constitute for a little more noise, wouldn't it? My Roadie's valves make noise, but are not excessively noisy. You have to remember that Roadies do not have a water-jacket around the cylinders to dampen any engine noises.

Synthetic oil is always good for a motor. Mileage doesn't matter. If you don't mind the extra cost (me , around 60.00 per oil change), I'd say do it. BB

I will and Thanks I have heard nothing but good things about syn.. Oil. Cannot complane to much about the cost After all she is my baby....

And you don't have to spend any $60 either... use the Wal*Mart ST7317 filter for under $3, made by Champion... a very good filter, and buy the 5 qt. jug of the Mobil 1 15w-50 for under $23. Save more than half of that 60.

Don't let anyone tell you it's not a good oil for your bike... I've used it in all my bikes for 26 years, with never an issue of any kind.

So, pamper your baby, and have enough left over to take your favorite girl out tonite!

I'm actually gonna take a look at that 5 quart deal myself......Roadliner takes 5 quarts , oil changes are getting 'spensive BB

My 04 R* would make a racket... clackity clack, ping, ping, fart (oops that was me) Switched over to synthetic (Mobil V-twin) and add MMO to the tank on a regular basis. It quieted down the motor significantly. Recently I installed an RPM gauge and determined I was lugging the engine on occasion. Optimum RPM (for me)seems to be @ 2000 RPM anything lower and I am lugging.
