Removing the Fuel Pump 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
|
|

I saw an article in the tech about relocating the fuel pump but I want to take mine off. I would just remove the thing, re-rout the fuel line and terminate the wires to the pump?

That's basicly about it. you will need to put a larger needle/float valve assembly in the carb to insure you get enough fuel to the bowl, although some claim it will work with the stock one, I would suggest to go larger. one of the articles gives the part number you will need....

Well I already did that, I have the 2.5mm float valve so I figured it was time to loose the pump, one less electrical item.
Thank you!

Did the pump removal on mine and highly recommend the larger Suzuki valve assembly. Running the bike with the stock valve will "bottom" out at higher speeds or just when you need the power. It's a simple operation. http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/163/96/ will guide you through it. make sure you also do the Mr. Tide tip when you check the float level. It'll save you a ton of grief later. Just take your time and plan for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (including a stop for refreshments).

If you haven't then you should remove the rollover valve, possibly vent the fuel tank cap and remove the small filter screen from where the fuel enters the carb. Sometimes it works without all of this sometimes it doesn't. Good luck!

Just went down, disconnected the electrical lead to the pump. All I did was move the line from the metal line to the carb up and to the tank. Down the road I might get a longer hose.
Now if I take the pump and bracket off, what am I going to do with the choke?
Do you just leave it hanging there or do I need to make a bracket for it?

I made a bracket out of aluminum for mine. Some have relocated it to other areas.
If you do a search you'll find a post with pics.

I made a small bracket and tucked it up under the edge of the tank, right where the old fuel pump was.

Re-routed mine to base between jugs with a homemade bracket. Get inventive. As long as you don't pull it too far out of the carb you're good to go. You can get more choke by trimming off about 1/16 " off the back part of the knob. It's explained in the tech section. As for the hose routing I followed the suggestions that accompanied the process. Remember to keep everything you take off your bike because somewhere down the line you or someone else will be needing it. It's much cheaper than showing up at the dealer's doorstep.
