Baffles - torque cones - both? 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Curious on the opinions here about torque cones and baffles, or without baffles...I did a search and all I get is Curts!

I have the LA Chopper curveDD pipes, HC Pro filter, and "had" my jetting pretty close...I say "had" because I was getting a high pitched whistle, almost sounded like a belt squeeeeeeeek from my exhaust, and upon investigating, it was the vortex baffle in there...when I pulled it, no squeak. But along with the no squeak, now I have no torque. ugh!

So, will the torque cones be my fix? Do I need to baffle, or mix the two? Will I need to do more carb work?

thanks, again....

Torque cones ... you don't need both but you could try it out and see if you 'feel' a difference ... I doubt it ... but with/without baffles may be the sound you prefer.

haha

So, back to Torque cones...I am curious if there is a preference? Are there advantages/disadvantages? I am debating on cutting the baffles down a little bit and putting them back in, to see if that kills the squeak. Now that I know it is the baffle, I am wondering what part of the airflow through it is creating the sound.

Do I get more backpressure from the baffle or cone? Safer for the valves and such with either one?

The more I read and research them, the more I see people say not to use them...but then Curt has good luck. haha. Go figure.

I guess for $35 I can try it out...May just try cuttin the baffle first tho. Right now, I am runnin open, and while I love the sound, I have no umph. Opinions?

Torque cones don't reduce the volume, they create back pressure.

Cutting, or lengthening, the baffles may help ... it depends if the whistling is generated due to the length or some other factor such as the the holes, etc.

Baffle and cone can give the same amount of back pressure ... depends on the design of the baffle.

Both raise pressure. Cones are what they are. They either give you what you want or they don't. Baffles are easy to tweak. But baffles change the sound too. So you might end up with perfect BP but you hate the sound. Or the other way around. Only one way to find out

What size are your baffles? I have a set of torque cones I made for some one else and I got the wrong size pipes for his. The ones I have will fit a 2 in ID pipe. I still have to make his.
