Re:Sputter..Pop..then go.....??? 4 Months ago
I just started having the bog down problem. It has happenned three times in the past 3 months. If I hit the throttle at speed it starts sputtering and then dies. It acts like its totally starved for fuel. This weekend I noticed that my fuel gage was down almost to the light coming on, and remebered that my gage showed low the last time that it happenned. Once I filled the tank up it was fine. It doesn't happen every time I get below 1/4 tank, but that is the only time that it happens. I'll drain the tank this weekend and see if there is any junk in the tank that could be blocking the fuel flow. Any other suggestions?

Just a thought but have you checked the vacuum diaphram in the carb. Perhaps it has a tear in it.

Helmut, I haven't checked anything at all on the carb. How complex is checking the diaphram?

it would run like crap all the time if the diaphram was torn. As the needle and throttle would not open proper...
Do you hear air hissing from your gas cap when you open it too fill, sometimes if the rollover valve is bad or the vent line is pinched it will act like that, because the pump is fighting to pull fuel from the tank..

First take air cleaner off and be sure the slider in the carb goes up and down easily no binding. To check the diaphram remove the black cap on the carb very carefully. Take a look at the diaphram with a flash light for small holes. Be carful not to damage it as they are very thin rubber. fuel vapour will eventually erode the rubber after many miles. If the hole is small enough the bike will run ok at slower speeds but if you get on it then you'll have issues. something to rule out anyway.

Well ..The jury is out....it was i believe 2 things ...The biggest being.......drum roll please.....the dreaded SVS... then in a distant 2nd...the resistors in the caps....
I would like to thank everyone for there help especially...Curt and Musky for there hard work..

So now In the top gears it is very sluggish and doesn't pull well in the upper rpms....So it is time to jet or order a jet kit.....(eats up fuel)

So what would you recommend for jetting???
I have my Dad talked into the stge 1-2 exhaust moddification..so if need be i think he would do 3....

So Dad has a Kuryaky Twin velocity with K+N filter....stock carb with a hugh main and soon to be modified exhaust.....

So thanks again to everyone here for all there help..

Joken,
How'd you do with the re-jetting and performance? I was reading in the Tech section about float adjustment and problems with high float level, and it sounds like you may have a sticky float needle valve.

In my previous post, I detailed problems with vibration and went to the Engine Chatter/Vibration thread with it. I may have gotten help pointing out float problem, too. I will attempt a fix tonight (if the wife doesn't complain about garage time again ) and post again on the other thread.

I also may change out mine to a #2.5 and get rid of the relocated electric fuel pump. Why they have one is beyond me anyhow

Hope this helps.

Joken,
Oops! Sorry, I didn't see your last post time. I guess you haven't installed the kit yet, huh?

I would get the Barons kit. You get all the jets you will need and a good needle. I would also recommend at least stage 2 on the pipes.
