Re:Baffles - torque cones - both? 4 Months ago
Well, in desperation to get my low torque back, I took my current baffle, cit one end off of it, shortened them a bit, then reinstalled. And guess what??!! They squeak again. It must be the way the air is flowing through the baffle, or through the gap between the baffle and the pipe making it whistle. As for my torque, I have no idea, it started raining on me before I could get her out to ride it! ugh!

BUT......I think I fixed my big popping on decel issue I did order some new jets, and I meticulously aligned the pipes in the ports to eliminate an air leak. I think this time I got is pretty solid, and so far so good...again, it's raining, so I will check it later.

Curt-
The pipes are the LA Choppers CurveDD, 1 3/4 I believe. I will have to measure it to be sure. If performance and torque wise I can use a cone instead of a baffle, I may do this, to get rid of that darn squeak!

I you want torque then you need to provide some backpressure. A simple way to do this is by a large body washer and weld it inside the baffle. You could try 2 or 3 of them in parallel but you'll need to experiment on the best placement of not only the single one but the other 2 or 3.

I't will keep you out of trouble for a while.

Re:Baffles - torque cones - both? 4 Months ago
Everything I've read about torque cones say they really don't make much of a difference. But I don't have any solid info on that.

I just installed Big City Thunder's Monster Baffles in my Vance and Hinzes Shortshots Staggered pipes. And I love them. When I first got the pipes I liked the tone but I thought they were too quite. So, I started messing around with the baffles (removed insillation and drilled a hole in the end). That made the pipes louder, but the quaily of the low tone was gone. The pipes sounded real raspity. Well, after checking some threads on here, I decided to go with the Thunder Monster Baffles. The sound is great, its lower and louder than how the V&H pipes came stock. It was just what I was looking for. And there really isn't a noticable power difference.

Also, there is a tech article for making your own Monster Baffles, but they are only around $35 a peice from Big City, so I just bought them.

I looked at those a little bit last night when I was surfing different baffle styles, and the Monsters are for straight, as in "does not curve" straight pipes. The ones I have are curved, so the baffle needs to curve.
