Slip on Mufflers/AIS removal/PMS adjustment 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Got the Khrome Werks mufflers on and they sound great...Until I go and decel...Then the popping goes crazy! I still have the AIS installed, and I would like to know if any adjustment to the PMS is going to fix it or should I just learn to live with it or not decel as hard, I would like to leave AIS where it is strictly for the purpose of the warranty.(If something happens to the engine I don't want to have to put it back on, especially with the stories of guys damaging the parts in the process of taking them off...I know, I am whining, but I would like to leave the stupid AIS where it is if at all possible(or just disabling it in place?)...

First check carefully for exhaust leaks.

    Then disable the AIS.

Then if you still get some slight popping it can be reduced with the PMS.

    Thanks doc,
  • Is there a way of disabling AIS but still having all the parts there, like hoses clamped etc, or do I nee to take everything off and plug the holes?

Leave everything on but disconnect the vacuum line and plug it with ... golf tee, BB, anything that fits.

    That's it?
  • I will definatly try that. can I use one of the things that they use to stop flow of medication to an IV? and then leave everything hooked up, or do I need to remove the hose and plug it?
  • Thanks for the help

    Never thought of that!

The vacuum is not strong so ... if it fits ... yes.

I just got done testing the clamp method...no dice. I am going to verify that I have the right line, but I am 99.9% sure that I got the correct one.(I didn't have the IV line thing, so I used a zip tie with a modified "z-kink" method, I think that might have made it worse...Next stop PMS!

You know, they make a "Block Off" kit for the AIS, for sale at your local Yamaha dealer. And no, it won't void your warrenty. Unless your State requires emmission tests, which I doubt, it is legal to remove it.
