Question about AIS/Fuel... 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have been reading about disconnecting the AIS. One of the big reasons seemed to be to stop backfiring on decel. I installed Krome Werks slip-ons a few weeks ago, and every once in awhile I get a backfire. Tonight I decided to remove the small line from the AIS and plug it.

I went for a ride and immediately noticed that it was backfiring at almost every gear change. I rode about 6 miles and pulled into a parking lot. I pulled the plug from the line, then I went to reinstall the hose and there was fuel coming out of the tubing. It was not running out, it did seep out. I hooked to line back up to the AIS and proceeded to ride it for 10-12 miles. It was back to normal as far as the backfiring.

Now to the question... why was there fuel in the vacuum line? What do I need to look into? Ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

The hose hooks up to a port on top of the intake manifold. Just gas that slipped into the hose on the way to the cylinders I guess. Unless you didn't have the hose blocked off all the way. Then it might have created a syphon effect. That could explain the backfires too.

If it's a < 2008, then you may have missed the two lines that need to be plugged there at the AIS. I'm not sure of the results of plugging just the vacuum line would have. Obviously, not good results... :0) Plug those to larger lines at the AIS and I bet you're happy.

The vacuum line was plugged tight. No vacuum leaks.

It's a 2005. I did try the easy way and just plugged the small vacuum line. Guess it didn't work.

I'll try plugging off all the hoses when I try it next time. Maybe this weekend.

Thanks,
Jeff

If you say it fixed the popping, then Im pretty sure it did work. The fuel is probably built up from the intake. Plug the hose and ride
