(Dual exhausts would help here)... does one cylinder have a sort of popping sound that coincides with the knock?? Or does the exhaust sound irregular with flashing or popping sounds?

If it does, it may be an air leak somewhere in the intake. You can check by spraying carb cleaner around the intake manifold flanges and if the engine sound changes or it dies, you have a leak. That would produce a detonation problem in the lean cylinder.

If not, you may want to buy a mechanics stethescope and try to pinpoint exactly where the knock is coming from.

That would help in deciding the possibilities.

Re:Engine Knocking 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I'm almost afraid to mention this.
I had this knock, Sounded like a Valve train rattle / detonation when warmed up at any speed mostly when you put a load on it. Drives me nuts!
I tried several oils, Yamalube was the worst! Amsoils was OK, Mobile One no Different, Lucas no different.

THEN I got the idea to add Lucas Oil Stabilizer, I figured out what they suggested and I took out 14 OZ's or oil and added 13 OZ's of the Lucas Oil stabilizer. Gigantic difference if not a 98% cure.

Now when I am on freeway and I twist the throttle all I hear is mean machine and air sucking in.

Someone else needs to try this and let us know if it works for you.

LUCAS is thick like the old STP SO I suggest you add it directly into the engine in the fill plug on the engine, (If you know where that is) OR just add it to the engine that has been warmed up. Then jump on and mix it up!

Personally I am going back to Amsoil but will use 16 OZ Lucas Oil stabilizer and the rest Amsoil since LUCAS mixes with anything.

BTW I did try the Luca synthetic Oil Stabilizer, That did not produce any results.

Magic touch was 14 OZ Lucas Oil Stabilizer and the rest of the 4 Qt's in Whatever oil you use, I think it will quiet it down no matter what oil you use.

Try the LUCAS and no charge for the new bike. MC

Yes is does, Used to be gigantic cure for a Hardley. Says add 10% in other Cycles. Used to be mostly available at all truckstops but it is in AUTOZONE last 3 years. You can search Lucas oil. http://www.lucasoil.com/ They are gigantic in racing. I used this stuff a lot (All products) When I owned a fleet of trucks. The oil anyalisis is what sold me as well as cold starting and MPG. (I use the fuel additive in my Roady also, 1oz every tank! And remember, I'm an Amsoil dealer.

They have a Motorcycle division.

Since not too many commented on an earlier post of mine re possible source for top end noise , I'll only throw this out there one last time! . .the 010 clearance I discovered between the Rocker arm assembly and the mounting bosses allows for a pretty nice ball peen hammer like sound if you push the Rocker assembly side to side at TDC . I keep thinking this could be one of the engine noises so frequently described ....

Hi 1Salin1 ride,

Yeah, I saw your post on that. Only thing I see wrong with it is that nothing pushes side-to-side on that rocker, right? Even if there was some angle to the pushrod, it still wouldn't slam that rocker sideways hard enough to make the noise I've been hearing.

Near as I can tell, the knock I hear is happening at engine speed, indicating that it's related to the pistons. The valve train operates 1/2 that speed.

Just my thoughts....
