Electrical Problems 5 Years, 6 Months ago
I have a 2000 Road Star Silverado and have had no electrical problems. I road the bike without incident and then the next day it is completely dead when the ignition switch is turned on. It is absolutely not the battery or battery connections. Nothing comes on. I have searched the wiring for a main fuse or breaker and can not find one. I did see a thermostat but I'm unsure if it cause the electrical system to shut down on a failure. Does anyone have any ideas?

Check the main fuse under the left side cover.

Nothing comes one ???? Are you saying that the front light does not come on?

If so ...... check fuses. The fuses are behind the left cover under the seat. Pull each fuse and check to see if it is OK.

Otherwise, basic stuff first ....

- red switch by right handlebar grip is on
- kickstand is up
- clutch lever pulled in

.... does it start?

Get back with this info.

I can't locate anything but the three fuses in the fuse box. All are ok. I can't locate a Main fuse - that is what I was looking for. Is it in-line somewhere?

i had the same happen about 3 years ago on mine (2001 roadstar).

after much head scratching and hunting with mr multimeter, i found that the contacts in the connector block that go in the top of the solenoid (also houses main fuse) were quite well oxidised. a quick clean up, spot of vaseline to protect, and no further occurance to date of the problem

i ride all year round and the bike gets covered in crap in the winter, which may have contributed to the problem.

Thanks to you I found the main fuse. It is blown. I hope it doesn't blow when I replace it.

Glad we could help, go to this site http://www.paulmilner.com/ and download a copy of the manual. They come in mighty handy.
