Re:Which pipes to get? 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Well, many thanks for all the replies here. I put the Khrome Werks tapered on yesterday and enjoyed all 50 miles I put on her. Man! What a sound!

Interesting, I think I could have done a better job breaking the bike in if I'd had these things on right away. Reason being, I wasn't lugging the bike through 1st, 2nd, 3rd for sure, BUT...there's every possibility that I was using 4th and 5th a little too soon. But hey, I had no freekin idea how slow the engine was really turning! The wind noise at those speeds made it so I couldn't hear it. I spent a lot of time leaning back and to the right to try to get some idea, but still I was probably using 4th and 5th too soon.

Now that I can hear it, yeah, 55, 60, even 65 before clicking to 5th is totally appropriate.

And the sound is quality. Deep, muted purr through the neighborhood, then a couple of gatling guns when you hit 1/4 throttle. Best of both worlds.

Thanks to the Clinic, I was able to afford these babies right away. Best $100 mod I've ever made to any bike in 39 years, not even taking into account inflation!

Glad you like them, I have been enjoying mine for about 2-3 weeks. Love the sound. I agree that they would have been a lot better for the break in process. I am SURE I was lugging the engine. I was actually using the owner's manual for all the shift points...STUPID........STUPID............STUPID......
  • I still can't believe they say you should be in fifth gear at 36 MPH. Oh well, I will stop ranting.

I, agree with doc; listen to as many as you can before you buy. They're pricey but if I had the money I'd buy rinehart staggered pipes. Right now I'm running 3" hardkrome staggered nice look but a little on the loud side but that saves lives right.

Does anyone know anything or anybody that has Road Burner/DG
    Road Pro with SLT

    Are they Loud
Whats the sound low or tinny
Bluing are they doubled wall they don't say
    best place to purchase

The other exhaust I am considering is the Vance & Hines Longshots
I have HK 3" now don't like the tinny sound

    Which is better way togo?

I went with a Cobra 2 into 1 system. It eliminates the Jap sound you get at certain RPM's, it always has a nice smooth note. The performance increase I got was fantastic. It really brings the bike on, in low mid to mid range and above. It starts pulling low and keeps on going. I'll never use another type of system on a twin as long as I live. Of course I'm the type of guy that likes a mustang seat, instead of a turtle shell. I ride 4 to 6 hours a shot and need to walk when I get off the bike. I have listened to so many fools tell me how cool their seat looks on their bike. When? Sitting in the parking lot? Hope this helps and does not get me outcast.

    Hey gdb1958,

The Cobras....have you ever heard them up against the V&H 2-into-1 Pro pipe? IF so, which is louder?

    Thanks,

It really is a personal preference sound.

What is your favorite color... mine is green but how many different answers will you get... plenty.

I too wanted that deep, throaty growl and my ear sent me to the Roadhouse brand. Next I opted for the look in the Dooley over the 2 - 1 performance... which sounds awesome too and was my second choice!

Put your ear to the test. Good luck.

    Hi Scotto,

Yeah, I know there's a huge range of sounds. Actually, I've decided I can't give up any cornering clearance whatsoever and I want the absolute best performance, so I'm leaning toward 2-into-1's.

For now my Khrome Werks slip ons are barking nicely.
