#124167 Joken (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 30 3 black and 1 white spark plug???? 3 Months, 1 Week ago   Hey guys I was working on Dads bike again and decided to change the spark plugs again.....They were all black except the right front cylinder which was white....The bike has been running rough and eating gas.... The valves were just checked about 2 months ago and were in spec???? What do you guys think?? Black and sooty means that too much unburned fuel is passing through the cylinder/s and leaving carbon deposits behind. Platinum Boarder Posts: 3149 Re:3 black and 1 white spark plug???? 3 Months, 1 Week ago   Something is amiss as one side of the cylinder is buring hotter than the other. Check for air leaks around the pipes and the manifold. The one you are talking about is close to the exhaust port so I would be looking for a leak there. I was wondering about this when I changed out my plugs, a couple of weeks ago and they came out looking like this... I wouldn't change a thing it is natural that they be slightly different as they don't fire exactly at the same time and the one by the exhaust portrun slightly cooler because of they are closest to the opening of the pipes. The others are in an area that remins hotter longer. Yep I agree Soba but my thinking was that 3 black plugs and 1 white meant a rich condition and the white one not firing just a continuous flow of gas on it kept it clean...Never heard of a two different colored plugs in the same cylinder.My rear plugs are always a little darker than the front ones and that is supposed to be normal.
