Vance & Hinse Longshots or ProPipe? 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Hey guys,

New to the forum and to the Road Star world. Just bought a used 2004 RS Midnight Silverado yesterday! This bike came with V&H 2-into-1 ProPipe. I liked the sound and torque on my way back home. However, I always prefered the look of the V&H Longshots.

Do you think it would be a good move to switch to the Longshots or should I keep the ProPipe? Any advise is welcome but please explain your point.

Just so you know, the bike also has a Kuryakyn Hypercharger and was jetted (according to the previous owner). AIS is removed too.

Waiting for your comments. Sorry if it has been previously discussed, I first made a search but didn't find any good thread comparing those 2 exhaust systems...

Thanks,

Pat

The 2 in 1 Pro pipe will give you more torque than any 2 in 2 system unless the 2 in 2 has a cross over.

Use which ever you like best I had Cobra shotguns and went to a Pro pipe. I think the Pro pipe has more torque but either way had plenty of torque for me. The shotguns were definitely louder.

I like the looks of the longshots, as well as the sound. Just switched over to longshot hotshots, and like them even better.

Beauty is in the eye and ear of the beholder.

What I or anyone else thinks looks and sounds good may not suit you, you have to please your own taste. I have an 03 Silverado with V&H Longshots and I think it is great; but that is my opinion!

Re:Vance & Hinse Longshots or ProPipe? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I finally made my decision and did the swap for the Longshots HS last Friday and I'm very happy with my choice. I always prefered the 2-to-2 look, I love the powerful throaty sound it gives and, maybe it's just in my head but I'm under the impression that the engine runs smoother on the highway.

You see, the used 2004 RS I bought a few weeks ago came with the 2-to-1 ProPipe. But if you look on Vance & Hinse's website, the ProPipe is made for '99 to '03 only. A tech at V&H told me that the difference is because of the new engine size from 2004 and that I should not fit pipes that are not made for my model year. So maybe the ProPipe being a little smaller in diameter was creating some kind of restriction while the Longshots HS is the right size for my 2004 and that may explain why I feel/hear the engine runs smoother with the new pipes...?

Now I'm just crossing fingers not to get tickets because of my new pipes! Cops were not able to stick a rod in the ProPipe so it was considered legal (when they didn't have a dB-meter on hand!) but it's a different story with the Longshots!!! But hey, that's the beauty of customizing, no!?!?

Thanks guys for your inputs,

Pat

P.S. For those of you wondering, I exchanged the ProPipe + $200 for the like-new used set of Longshots HS. I considered it was easier than trying to sell them by myself, especially because the ProPipe is made for bikes 5 years and older and most guys with a 5+ year bike have already made that kind of mod.

The vance and hines tech told us all that. they also said it wouldnt fit. It does, and it hasnt created any problems that I am aware of. I know Doc ran them, Musky, Big Bear. I never had any issues with mine either. Not that I dont like the long shots, I do. I just didnt care for the stacked pipe look. I hate the way Star mounts their bags so high. It makes them look out of place, so i went with the single pipe so I could lower my bags for a better look. all that is subjective to ones taste ofcourse.

I used to like the look of 2 into 2 but there is no doubt the 2 into 1 gives you a bit more grunt so I went with the ProPipe and love it. To each his own. Since I am going for a very minimalist look the less pipe I see the better. Also I find that the 2 into 1's (in general) seem to be a bit quieter. A lifetime of construction work and heavy equipment has taken a wee bit of the hearing so I'd like to keep what I have. Working on a funny car back in the day didn't help any either.

V and H say they don't fit by the way but they do. Tech at V and H told me they just hadn't had a 1700 to try them on so they play it safe and say they wont fit in case they don't. Mine went right on.

Re:Vance & Hinse Longshots or ProPipe? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
For sure they fit, I had one on my 2004 before the swap . The flange is the same size but I tought that maybe the engine's output diameter was slightly bigger on 2004+, reason why the V&H tech did not recommend putting ProPipes on 2003 and lower models. But seeing here the number of riders with ProPipes on 2004+ models without any problem, Vance & Hinse should just add them on their website for 2004+ models!

But like I said in one of my previous postings, could it be possible that swapping from the ProPipe to the Longshots HS on my 2004 would make the engine run smoother on highway? I was really under that impression on my way back home cruisin' at 115 KPH... But maybe it was just in my head. It could just be the wind that entered the ears differently because of my big smile lolll
