#125828 PIG 116 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 34 Clutch cable breaking? 3 Months, 1 Week ago   I have the stage iv and heavy clutch was installed. The clutch cable frayed right at the ball that inserts into the clutch lever. They replaced it with another Yamaha braided cable, after about 3000 miles, it has happened again. Is the clutch to heavy for these cables? The housing was chromed, but I didn't see anything that looked like it was snagging on the cable. Gold Boarder Posts: 704 Re:Clutch cable breaking? 3 Months, 1 Week ago   Yep, it's breaking alright,,,,I would definetly check for sharp edges on the handle where the ball inserts. There may even be a protector sleave around the ball, i'm not sure but it would make since. I used a stock one which does have a protective piece around the ball, but the braided one does not. I'd check the area where it fraying ... you may have a sharp edge. My cable was only two months old. I had a shop put Apes on my bike so I did'nt get to see the protective cover on the original looked like. Could you kinda give me an idea of what it looks like? Is it just like a plastic cover? Bottom line is factory cables suck. I've had Barnett clutch plates ,springs and cable for 40k miles and the look and work great.
