#126724 dougc (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 16 Starter problems? 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago   I am a new V Star owner, a 2001 1100 Classic. I understand these bikes are prone to having starter problems. In other forums I have seen reference to a "proper starting" procedure but I have not seen any explanation as to what the "proper starting" procedure is. Can someone explain this to me? Didn't really have any problems, as long as I opened the choke when cold, and made sure I twisted the throttle a couple times before starting just to make sure there was enough gas going to the bowl. After warm up choke off and you are ready to go. For a hot start 1. transmission neutral 2.ignition on 3.choke off 4.kill switch on 5. open throttle slightly and press starter button. Junior Boarder Posts: 179 Re:Starter problems? 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago   I think what Clifford said would about sum it up.. in neutral is probably a good key, that way there's the least resistance possible turning the engine over. Otherwise, it might just be a weak point on the bike? My dad has an 03 1100, have yet to (knock on wood) have any problems at all with it. Cheers! There\'ll be no regrets, no worries and such, for cowboys like us.   The administrator has disabled public write access. #127008 Clifford (User) Expert Boarder Posts: 501 Re:Starter problems? 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago   The only persistant problem that I know of on the V-Star is getting to the oil filter; which can be cured with an "oil filter relocation kit." All bikes have a clutch mechanism in the starter drive. The clutch works like a ratchet so that the starter will turn the engine but the engine will not turn the starter. Once in a while I see a starter clutch fail, where the starter will not turn the engine; but that happens to anything and is not prone to the V-Star.
