Fork seal question 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Hi

I'm lowering my bike. I have the front forks off and I am in the process of putting the forks back together. When I took the fork seal out I did not realize there was a differance between the top and the bottom of the seal. One side of the seal has a spring inside it the other side has writing like BR1922H. Which side goes down and the spring side or the writing side?

Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg, I just took my fork leg off tonight to grind off the fender tabs so have the rubber seals still on the fork. Just went out and looked at them.

There are two rubber fork seals on the fork leg. The top fork seal has a little spring that goes around the top of the rubber seal. It is very easy to see the spring on the outside of the seal. The bottom rubber fork seal has a spring inside of the seal and is not very easy to see. The spring faces the bottom of the fork, or goes on the bottom. Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking a look. It was the second seal (the oil seal) I was asking about. I did not see the spring on the inside of the seal. I had the parts in 2 stacked in the order and the way they came off. But my neighbor came over to help with something else and made a spaghetti pile of both stacks. I hope you were going to pull your fork apart anyway and just did not do it on my account. I do appreciate the assistance.
