Vibration 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
In addition to my knocking issue, I was wondering if anyone had a strong vibration at only certain RPMs.

I have a strong vibe at 40 in 3rd, 50 in 4th, and right at 62 in 5th gear. I have the factory wind deflectors on it now and they buzz loudly and are a blur. They are vibrating about a half inch back and forth.

Does anyone else have this vibe? I'm wondering because I don't think my bike did it when new; I think it's a developing thing.

I've had this vibration since I bought it new. I really notice it on the floorboards and gas tank. I have asked the dealer and all I hear is that it is normal. I have asked this forum and the responses are "yes it's normal", "nature of the beast", "It's a V-twin expect vibration". I have approx. 800 miles on my 2008 $14,000.00 Silverado S and about to trade it in on a bike that I can enjoy riding, perhaps a Kawaski or HD.

engine harmonics, yes mine vibrated at certain speeds. I would notice it most in the fairing and lowers. At certain speeds they would vibrate all over the place. At other speeds it was much better. I can say most of the Roadstars seem to do it. Is it a problem? I dont know. I just know most do. My HD vibrates also. Much more than the roadie at stopped or slow speeds and much less at higher speeds. My Honda vibrated, but less than both the Yamaha and the HD. Myred55, its no fun to have a bike you don't like. If its not for you, then you should trade. Life is too short to not enjoy what you have. Different strokes for different folks. There are things about every bike I have had that were great and things that were not. I still have found the perfect bike for me, but someday someone will build it and I will have it.

Thanks Java for the response. I'm kicking around the idea of trading the R* for a Stratoliner. I plan on talking to the dealer this weekend to see if I can test drive one. I really don't know much about the Stratoliner regarding engine noise and vibration. I've only heard good about the bike. Anyone in the forum heard any negative about the Stratoliner?

Actually, at those speeds, the bike's just about lugging. I think if you increase your RPMs, that's disappear. Have you tried giving her a good shot of gas at those speeds in those gears. I think you'll find that she dogs, a good indication that the gear is too high for the speed.

That's my experience and thinking at the moment. Give me a minute. It'll change.

Also, double-check your tire inflation. On the ride that the Missus and I took today, the bike seemed a little squirrely -- The front, in particular, and I noticed the bike vibrating more than usual, too.. After we got home, I jacked it up and checked the pressures to find that I was down about 10 psi, front and rear. It makes a difference.

Yes, at certain speeds like 35 they would vibrate, I put rubber fender washers in between the lowers and mounting bracket, that helped tremendously. They still vibrated but I couldnt hear them!
