Clearance between bags and exhaust 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|

I am installing some generic saddle bags on my V Star 1100. What is the recommended clearance between the bottom of the bag and the exhaust pipe?
The bags are of a leather-like material.
Thanks,
Doug

I have seen 2" recommended by most manufactures I checked on.

Be mindful of clearance when the bike bottoms out too mate...I had to install some spacers on my bag mounts to allow bags to clear the drive belt guard....same applies to the exhaust.

Yes when I lowered my bags I had to space the left side a little over a 1/4" for the same reason.

"Leather like material"? Real leather would be more able to take the heat than any synthetic that I know of so err on the side of caution. If you want to run them closer to the pipes maybe you could sew some black leather to the bottoms as a shield. Just a thought.

Exhaust is on the motor/ main frame and the position of it relative to the bags in constant. The rear wheel is on the swingarm and travels independent of the bag. It's really only the pulley side rear that the clearance is dynamic it's static on the exhaust side.

Err yeah it's shaft... I had roadstar on the brain. The wheel hub on the V-Star still moves but it is tucked well in from where the pulleys on the roadtar stick out.
