Clutch or not 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Okay, I bought that "Ride Like a Cop" video.
Had lots of fun and learned how to handle my scoot much, much better at low speeds. Unfortunately, being a clutz, I overhated y clutch to the point of not disengaging twice. Now it slips under rapid power application The bike has about 1500 miles on it! (Is this a record of stupidity, or what?) Can it be glazed, or do I just need to go get a new clutch put in?
 Dumb, I know!
Can you fry one that fast??

You may only need to adjust the clutch. When you pull lever there should be about a nickles worth of free space in the lever pivot when you feel the tension begin in the lever

I would look at the adjustment first. I wouln't think that the clutch would be fried just yet. My friend just completed the police motorcycle class two weeks ago. They put their bikes through hell for two solid weeks on the course and the clutches hold up just fine. Of course, they are riding police model HD Road Kings and they may have a beefier clutch set up.

riding with the clutch typically doesnt hurt the Roadie like it will an HD. You have to upgrade the HD clutch of you do that alot. I agree with the adjustments first.

Isn't that a GREAT video?? I'm sure your clutch is fine. Since watching that video, I haven't even come close to dropping my bike. Before watching it, I'd dropped it twice, doing low-speed maneuvers. Now, with perfect confidence, I cruise slow through parking lots and I haven't done a bit of "duck-walking" or foot-dragging, since. Every time I ride, I examine what I'm doing and consciously work on doing it better.

Yep the Ride like a Pro videos are great, I own them and watch it every spring to refresh my head, then I go out with my tennis balls cut in half and do the exercise.
Love it..
I think every one should have to take a MSF course and wear a helmet, just threw that in to shake the tree...

I have taken two MSF courses and did the slow riding on really hot days with my old Roadie and nothing happened to the clutch, if I were you I would check the clutch adjustment and the clutch cable to make sure everything was where its suppose to be doing what its suppose to be doing.
I highly doubt anything is wrong but you never know.
