Well, for now I bolted in freeze plugs the same size as the baffles then drilled five 3/8" holes. It was much quieter but sounded like crappola. I drilled out the center to 1/2" and it made a big difference, believe it or not. Still doesn't sound great but I'll try it a while. I'll probably end up going back to the way it was until I decide to spend some more money and buy a new system.

BBMS when you get tired of messing with them let me know. If you will give me exact measurements of your baffles I will make you a set that you will like for a good price.
But Curt, I have a much fun tinkering with this thing as I do riding! My problem is finding time to tinker.
I did open up one more hole in each plate to 1/2". And it's close enough for now. It amazes me how much difference going from 3/8" to 1/2" makes. That's only .0859" difference.

A little but I'm considering fabricating short baffles to fit in the end of the header pipes instead of at the end of the slip-ons. Any opinions?

Gidday..greyphart...I've heard that they have these available for HDs. Perhaps you could visit a local custom shop and have a look at what they do. Our local vee-twin shop has them on the shelf.

I still find it amazing how many HD parts are compatible with the R*. Wonder it it's the opposite also? Thanks Emu.

Hey Greyphart and whoever might be interested . I installed Head Pipe Baffles from Big City thunder in my Cobra 2 into 1 Power pro System, Removed the auful ( to my ears and my Harley Friends ) megaphone and baffle system the Cobra came with and installed a 2 inch Straight pipe inside the Muffler body which happened to be an old Cobra drag pipe off my old vstar 1100 . Deepest Rumble I have ever heard , Not too loud at cruise ,Correct back pressure and anti reversal properties from these inexpensive simple looking baffles . Totally happy Finally with my Sound and look .

hello
I have a 2001 roadstar and I love it. I bought it with a set of after market pipes. they sound good but I notice that I could take out the baffles and the sound was loud but very nice.
My question is what is the effect of running straight pipes with no baffles on the engine.
It seems to run a lot better but I am concerned about engine problems also the pipes are sooty so it maybe running rich
any thoughts
Thanks
Joe

I tried the no baffle approach also and it was kinda loud so I'm going with a modified setup. Any engine needs a certain amout back pressure. Running without baffles depends on the pipes (I'm sure some'll chime in on this). As far as the sooty-ness, what if any, are the mods done to the carb/air? Generally these bikes run lean from the factory. Lotsa questions. Gas octane you use, type of plugs, altitude you run at, weather, lead throttle hand, etc.
