I haven't done much to my Roadie, but I have rebuilt a few others in my day. Start simple, it's usually something that when you find it, you want to beat yourself on the forehead for

.

Since you say it fires but then stops, it sounds like it may be a fuel problem.
Free flow some fuel out of the tank petcock. When you took the tank off, you may have tipped it to the petcock side and gotten some debris stuck in it

.
Do you still run a fuel pump? If so, did it get reconnected? Do you hear that telltale clicking when you turn the key on?
Move on to the carbs. Did all of the linkage get reconnected correctly?

Just start simple and hopefully you'll find it. If not, I'm sure some of the more experienced Roadie Guru's will chime in shortly.
