Re:Cobra Speedsters installation 5 Years, 1 Month ago
Well, once again I learned the hard way. Or should I say, the expensive way. If I had only waited one more day to buy a breather kit I would have read and learned from posts here that the Twin Velocity sticks out quite a bit further than the stock box and may cause problems for some riders. It's really in the way when I try to get on the rear brake in a hurry. I guess I'll get used to it.

I'm not really happy with the quality/fit/finish either. Specifically, one of the chromed tapered washers was not round and the elliptical shape caused the fastener head to fit so tightly that when turned it chipped most of the chrome off the washer! Add that to the fact that I had to go to 5 places to find the 12 point 1/4" socket needed to remove the cover screws during assembly and this just wasn't a smart purchase IMO.

I test drove it today and it definately adds power, but I'm just not happy with it sticking out so far and the fact that half the intake holes are covered by my pants leg.

I'm thinking maybe I can move it in by fabbing a new bracket with legs that stand-out less from the carb. Question is whether the rubber boot will be sustain its shape when compressed approx. 1" inward? Probably not.

My other option is to purchase forward controls for an additional 300 clams. Probably the only option that makes sense at this point.

Anyone want to buy a used (for one day) Twin Velocity breather? Price is right!
