fuel expelled from carb after shut off 4 Years ago
I have a new 05 Midnightstar and have done numerous mods already. I am running roadhouse pipes, thunder SS airkit and have rejetted the carbs to .195 main and the needle clip on the third groove. Yes the ais is gone and the pump relocated under the tank. I have noticed gas on the motor when parked after a ride. Last nite I saw fuel spit out the vent tube (near top of carb)after coming in from a ride. "what is making it do that"? and "how can I stop it"?
My thoughts are that the fuel system is pressurized and I may need to shut off the petcock.(?) anybody have a different better idea of what is going on here? thanks for the help.

Post edited by: ponchovilla, at: 2005/01/05 21:23

I would check the float level in the carb. You have had it open ... it may have gotten tweaked no matter how careful you were.

That better? I was waiting for a sunny day to get a picture with the new white walls and replace them all ... but since we seem to be waiting for Noah to finish his ark, it may be a while.

im sure you have probally heard this a million times but, just in case you havent...you must drain the float bowl from the FLOATbowl drain screw prior to opening the carb, it can cause a float to suck down, if you attempt to remove the bowl prior to releasing any pressure...if the needle jet doesnt seat right it will not seal right....tech tip a small amount of toothpaste in the end of a qtip will help polish the inside of the needle seat perfect, and create an awesome seal...goodluck..BIG

MY O4 DOES THE SAME THING AFTER ADDING THE BARON'S BAK. THE DLR DID THE WORK AND I REALLY DO "TRUST" THEM. IT'S ONLY DONE THIS 3X'S, BUT IT IS A TAD NERVE RACKING TO HAVE GAS HIT THAT HOT EXHAUST. I EVEN TRY TO TURN THE GAS OFF ABOUT A BLOCK FROM HOME, JUST TO GET THE GAS OUT OF THE SYSTEM.

Xman, this has only happened a few times...that I am aware of. I do appreciate the insight everybody has offered but I was trying to understand what it is from, why it happens and how to fix it from happening again.
To keep this occasional fuel from getting on my hot engine, I used that 18" peice of 1/4" vacuum hose from the now defunct AIS. It fits snug inside that short 90 vent tube and I ran it down between the cylinders and out along the oil feed tube on left side. I routed out front under the oil banjo nut and down by the frame. It hides pretty well. This way if it should decide to blow its cookies again, it will deposit it on the ground and not on the motor. Not really solve the problem but trying not to start another problem. a fire. let me know if you need pics.

Post edited by: ponchovilla, at: 2005/01/10 14:49

WHEN I APPROACHED THE BARON'S TECH HE THOUGHT THE FLOAT WAS EITHER STICKING OR SET WRONG. I GUESS I'M PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE CAUSE THE DLR IS 40 MILES FROM ME AND IT'S ONLY OCC 3X. I GUESS THEY'D HAVE TO TEAR DOWN THE CARB TO CHECK IT OUT. SORRY, THAT'S ALL I KNOW.
