AIS Completed!! Wow looks better!! 3 Years, 6 Months ago
It's nice to not have that AIS, canister, hoses and clamps all over the engine anymore. Now you can see that it is a v-twin. Instructions from here and there were a little vague so hopefully no future problems, but I took off almost every vacuum hose. The california AIS on here was very helpful, I just didn't know exactly where to stop so I eliminated almost the whole vacuum system. Looks good. Between the canister, pump, solenoids and hoses there was probably five pounds of crap on there. My sig pic was yanked so I will post pics when I redo that. To the people that have done stage 3 on their exhaust, too much work to remove all of the baffles for me, anyone drill the front baffle, did it make it sound better? Thanks for the feedback.

Hello! If you take out the cone and drill 8 3/8 or 1/2 inch holes in the first baffle you will get more rumble. Nice, deep, but not loud when cruising!

Looking forward to pics. I'd like to take mine off, but I'm pretty much a klutz when it comes to anything involving tools.

What are the benefits to taking the AIS off?

AIS free here as well. It was a bit tougher than I expected. The folks at the factory must have gotten a couple of sumo type guys to stand on a breaker bar to put the phillips screws into the bracket holding part of it on. Had to end up hitting it with WD 40 AND cutting a slot in it with the Dremel.

But, it's all off now and I do like the cleaner look.

I know I'll never put it back on. So, is it weird that I just can't bring myself to throw all that stuff away? Anyone else suffer from Junk Retention Syndrome?

I never throw hardware away. I still have the Yamaha stamped engine covers that I replaced. (You should see all the crap I've taken off of my Jeep!)

I know how that is. I bought mine used, and I got a box of "goodies" with it. It wasn't even on my scoot when I bought it, and I still can't get rid of it.
