What kind of air filter? Is it an oil type that maybe they serviced while they had it off?

Outside only ... how much? I usually do just enough to coat it. I use a MAXFLO and it has foam, so I spary it on so that it is damp, then massage it in. For K&N, I used to just spray it on so that it covered the filer media completely, wiped off anything that was excess and let her go.

I've read the other posts Zaw and I run a K&N too. Make SURE after you clean it the you re-oil it with K&N oil. I usually oil mine and then let it sit overnight on paper towels to help get rid of the excess -- and it still lets oil schpew on the rear pipe for a couple hundred miles. Just keep the rear pipe clean (0000 steel wool and simple green on the rear pipe when cold will keep it clean then use chrome polish) and eventually it will stop.
