v-star question 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Hey Guys, I ride an 04 Roadstar, and I am switching my wife from a honda shadow to an 04 v-star 1100. The V-star is completely stock and my wife would like it to have a little noise. Does anyone have any suggestions on what pipes to use with little jetting adjustments? Would a pair of slip on's give her the noise she wants without digging into the carb?

thanks for the help,
wayne.

Hey whintz - yes slipons would be good without requiring rejetting, normally.

If you are just changing the pipe you seldom have to dig into the carb. Jetting is seldom needed to just add some slip ons. JMO.

Pipes - even slip-ons no carb work needed...
Vance and Hines make a set of slip ons for the v-star, Cobra makes a nice set that is a little cheaper my friend has the Cobras on her 650 v-star.. sound nice.

If you are going to use slip-ons get some high temp sealant and use it the first time you put them on. Save yourself the headache of taking them back off to do it. They're known for leaking where the mufflers attach to the head pipes.

I have the Cobra's on my V-Star 1100. They leak at the junction, and I need to seal them. They are not quiet, but I wouldn't say they are too loud either... they're right at about the limit of my tolerance, and so I'm keeping them.

It also has the MaxxAir Tech kit too, and that may contribute to the noise a bit.

It feels like it easily pulls as hard as the R*, but I'm certain a good bit of that has to do with the gearing.

You could always just Drill out the Stock Exhaust and that will give it some more Rumble. And the best thing is IT'S FREE!!!

My wife has a set of Long Shots on her 03 1100 and the thing is loud. I can still hear her a couple miles away from the house. She has her bike mistaken for a Harly all the time because it is so loud. I really like the rumble she gets from them

I used to own a V-Star 1100 and had Samson pipes on it. It backfired a little when downshifting, so I got sick of it and put a Thunder air kit on and rejetted the carb. Turned out to be *just right* as far as loudness - not too loud, and definitely not too quiet.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. The bike won't be here for 2-3 more weeks. I might try and drill the stock exhaust, just for the heck of it and it's a long winter. I bought the bike off of ebay, so I'm crossing my fingers. My wife is so excited, now her and i will match, her v-star and my roadstar. Also, any receomendations on a "cheap" oil filter relocation kit for it.
