Ok so back to the subject. Sounds like normal mileage right out of the box is 40+ I'm getting less than half of that. Is my engine just a lot tighter than normal? Is this good? Bad? Should i be worried? I removed my AIS and California smog BS.

My milage when new was 27. After break in it was around 30. After I took the stock pipes off it went up to around 38 or so. Now I have put on a BAK, jetted, and ported my manifold. 44 mpg average. But that was just what my case was.
The bikes are all different. I would start by having the dealer check the PMS to see if it's out too far. Might be the float level. Your bike is under warranty. Make them fix it.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/01/16 20:45

When I picked up my 05 Midnight (with less than 1 mile on the odo) I had to ride almost 200 miles home, I did it on one tank with plenty to spare. Didn't even have to switch to reserve. Last time I checked I was getting low to mid 40's stock with only Stage 1 exhaust mod, I haven't checked in a while. Even new I'd say you may need some adjustments but I'm the last person to give advice on that.

Don't panic yet as regards to your mileage, let the motor run its course through the break-in,then measure the mileage after break-in. It will probably surprise you how much more "free" and powerful and fuel efficient the bike will run. I noticed this at about 1000 mile mark.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/01/17 07:04

Had to ride mine 300 miles the first day I bought it.From LA to Las Vegas.
First 80 miles went thru almost a tank of gas.Stopped, had breakfast, let it
cool down completely.Filled up and it settled right down. That was new, with
(NO)miles on the speedo.Veried my speed best I could and kept it under 70MPH.
Now after Dooley`s and Air cleaner and jetting(several times)39 to 44 MPG.
Have had no problems
