'04 model fuel pump DN click... 3 Years, 4 Months ago
you know how the fuel pump clicks a few times or so when you hit the red button before you hit the starter? Mine DN click now.Damn! I have to admit I got onto other things and let the bike sit for probably three months or so.Its been a real reliable bike since '04.No problems to speak of.I have fuel in the tank and a fully charged battery.Petcock is on.When I turn the key on and unkill the red switch I should hear the fuel pump clicking away. Then hit the starter button and roar to life.
Now...no roar.It coughed a few times and tried to start but nothing now.Just turns over. What killed the fuel pump?

There's been several threads on fuel pump problems, you might try the search function while your waiting for some answers..first thing I would check on the bike would be electrical..fuse.

Thanks for the quick response.Like I said this bike has been elperfecto since day one! So I don't know my way around it like some others.Having said that I just did a continuity check and all fuses are good. You're talking about the fuses under the left side cover, right? Are there any others? The kill swicth checks out too.Full voltage there.Whats downline of the switch? Only the fuel pump itself?

You should save the kill switch for emergencies. Just use the key to turn it on and off. Your float needle might be gummed up and stuck closed. So the pump wouldn't click. Try tapping on the float bowl with a screwdriver handle or something like that.

So the float bowls are telling the fuel pump to click? I'll be out in the garage tapping and trying for the next few minutes.
Thanks for the input.
BRB.

The pump only runs until the bowl is full. Then it shuts off.

Oh,right.I should have recognized that timing on the clicking and filling of the float bowl.
Right you were Musky!
It was tap, tap, tap, crank, crank, crank and boom! It roars to life.
I LOVE THIS BIKE!
And of course I'm fond of the forum members too.
Thanks Musky.

Glad it worked for you. You should get some Seafoam or some other fuel system cleaner and run some in your gas for a couple tanks. Get things cleaned up.
